A Pacceka Buddha reaches enlightenment all on their own by understanding the Four Noble Truths without any help from a teacher. These Buddhas show up in the world during times when there isn't a Samma Sambuddha or their teachings available, but they don’t take on the role of a teacher themselves. Because of this, they don’t create a tradition of followers or a "buddha sasana." Interestingly, there can be many Pacceka Buddhas around at the same time!

In Theravada Buddhism, there are three types of fully enlightened beings:

1. Samma Sambuddha
2. Pacceka Buddha
3. Arahant

A Pacceka Buddha is someone who achieves enlightenment for themselves and has deep, perfect insight. However, they don’t share their wisdom with the world, which is why they’re sometimes referred to as the "Silent Buddha" in translations. They spend a significant amount of time practicing their parami, or virtues, often for at least two lifetimes.

A Pacceka Buddha is someone who has reached a profound level of understanding and enlightenment all on their own. They achieve this incredible insight but choose not to share it with the world, which is why they’re sometimes called the "Silent Buddha" in translations. These individuals spend an impressive amount of time—at least two thousand asankheyya kappas—practicing their virtues. They can be born into any of the three main groups: brahmana, khattiya, or gahapati, but only during a special time when Buddhas are also born, and they never get the chance to meet a Buddha in person. While they can't teach others directly, their understanding of the Dhamma is deep, though it’s described as being like a dream for someone who can’t hear or speak. They possess many of the same abilities as Buddhas, but they’re still a step behind in their spiritual journey. They do help others in a way, offering guidance focused on doing good.
